I view the events in Boston as political acts, the purpose being to shape people's views and subsequent actions. Why do people die? It's considered the appropriate tool by the perpetrators to achieve the relevant change in mindset for the targeted audience.
Some people simply consider these lost and maimed lives as tradeoffs to achieve their selfish goals. They rationalise the acts in such a way so as to define their acts as essentially good on balance.

i cant wait for the day that it will be a universal law to have electronic chips placed in people's brains so that the police will be able to tell when someone is plotting to commit a crime.
