Micheal Collinsevery day inn every way every governmetn and business is looking at some sort of fiscal cliff. If they want to see it that way.
The capitolspeak of "fiscal cliff" is to give a bone for voters and hournalists to worry over, and promite the dependence on the politicians. The truth is, a deal of some sort will come regardless of public statements, the whole economy will muddle along and it doesn't really matter who is in power, the same semi-permanent forces will drive the outcome.
Politicians need to be seen to be relevant, otherwise they lose their importance. Creating crises like a so called fiscal cliff (the term originated decades ago, and has been used several times since) keep the viters thinking that Washington is relevant.
I think we should all look at Belgium, they went without a government for about a year, and the sky never fell down. That's because countries have adminsitrative systems that can function without political "direction". Politics at times hindres progress. but it has to exist as otherwise we'd find ourselves in a dictatorship situation and we have to be real lucky for that to work out
